No Bedbugs or Ballyhoo...

It has been an uneventful week in Piscataway. I've been living in my hotel room like a US Alan Partridge (though I didn't try to watch any Bangkok Ladyboys) and I'm now sick of the advert for Friendlys. The news stories have not changed all week. Lilo, Marc Zuckerberg, bedbugs plaguing New York, murders in CT, Katy Perry banned from Sesame Street... ooh, a bit about the UN congress in New York, but only to moan about the traffic really and go "Boo" at Mahmoud Ahmedinejad. I have fallen asleep watching all the exciting new season premieres.
I got taken to Target on Thursday, so I've been able to save a bit of money I would have had to spend in the restaurant here. There really is nowhere else unless you take a car, and not by myself... no way!
Today though is adventure day. I'm about to go to breakfast and then I'll be off to NYC. I'll ride the Statten Island Ferry and have a good mooch round. Did want to go to the Guggenheim, but that's $18 to get in, but I can go see the Tracey Emin exhibition for free. Do I want to? But I'll take my book to Central Park, walk round Times Square, Macy's, The Rockefeller. Lunch in East Village, if that's not too far.
I've whiled away the time here with attempts at sleep, have started a new short story, read Interzone and my Review Book, and a bit of The Case for God as recommended by Ken Macleod... but my brain craves lighter stuff at the moment.
It is with a sense of horror that I have realised I have three gigs next weekend... I need to be able to afford to get to them. so I've been chasing up payments due... might just scrape by.
And then there's Newcon. I made a facebook page for it yesterday as there didn't seem to be one... this is exciting!
Here are my programme details:
12pm Sunday 10th: Bards in the Bar! Live poetry: Donna Scott, Cardinal Cox, Sam Stone
2:00 Celtic Fantasy vs Vampire Fiction: Storm Constantine, Juliet E McKenna, Kari Sperring, Sam Stone, Donna Scott
Should be cool!
