I found myself taking part in a bit of a live political feature tonight on Sky News concerning the live televised debates that are planned. That was pretty cool - I got to put an opposing point of view to a politics lecturer. I was not as excited as he was about the prospect. We have information overload about party politics. I don't know why people can't just read newspapers and watch news and read all the chuffing stupid tweets like I do.

It was over in about three minutes though, so I think Jeremy Paxman's job is safe. Basically, I got asked to do it on the basis that I am female, and these things have to be balanced. Yeah, well... good.

...and I got to say slightly more than I did on Central Weekend, too.

I had a gig in Stafford last night. It's a long way to go, but I don’t mind going out on a Monday, as Masterchef isn’t on. What N and I have found each year is that the person we end up rooting for stands out a mile early on in the competition. Previously we have cheered on mad, clever baby-cook, Emily, and nice, gentle biker-bloke Matt. Emily got to the final two years ago, and Matt ended up winning last year. This year, we want to cheer on Stacey – the beehived British classics enthusiast. There’s something very cheery about the lass, her food looks ace, and I like her ethos. She’s into real food, and her hero is Fanny Craddock. What she cooks must be a refreshing change yet another plate of half-raw scallops with black pudding and pea puree. Oh how unusual it is to see that dish this series.

Plus, it’s not a comedy, but it’s subtly hilarious: John and Gregg making each other laugh when they say, “Whoever wins this competition, it’ll chaaange thurrr loiiffe.” “Cooking doesn’t get tougher. Than this.” But it’s the little faces John Torrode makes that really make me giggle... Dave Lamb on Come Dine with Me, you have nothing, you hear me? Nothing!

The gig went okay, but I am in need of oodles of sleep tonight, so I'm glad I don't have another one to go to for a bit. N's set went down particularly well. My mind is ticking though... I want my comedy to say stuff, which it really doesn't at the moment. I don't want to go the extremes of political ranting, but a bit of substance will do. Less froth. Or pea puree.
